I\u2019m very excited because I\u2019m going to attend the NCKP in Chicago for the first time, and I wanted to share this experience with you.<\/strong>
My goal is to write a post each day of the event so I can show you everything that\u2019s happening there, for those of you who can\u2019t attend or who are thinking about going in the future.<\/p>\n<\/div>

What is the NCKP?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The NCKP Conference (also known as The Piano Conference<\/em>) is a biennial event dedicated to piano teaching, learning, and performance at an international level. Originally known as the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy<\/em>, it was initiated by the Frances Clark Center and first held in 2001. You can browse the archives of all past conferences [here<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception, it has brought together thousands of teachers, musicians, and pedagogues from around the world in Chicago (USA) and online, with a program that includes lectures, masterclasses, demonstrations, panel discussions, book exhibits, concerts, and TED-style \u201cPEDx\u201d sessions. The event stands out for its collaborative approach to professional development, discussions on teaching methodologies, and promotion of educational innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most recent edition, NCKP 2025, will be held in person from July 23 to 26, 2025, in Lombard, Chicago, starting with a \u201csummit\u201d day (I’ll explain more about what that is once I figure it out!) followed by three days of conferences, exhibits, concerts, and presentations. There was also an online conference on June 7 and 8, 2025. This year, for the first time, the online format has included sessions in other languages \u2014 Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, and Korean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In this series of posts, I\u2019ll be focusing on the in-person event, not the online version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Year\u2019s Edition<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019d like to give you a brief overview of some of the scheduled activities for this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first day of NCKP is dedicated to the Summit<\/em>. This summit \u2014 officially titled the Innovation Summit: Designing the Future of Piano Education<\/em> \u2014 will take place on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It\u2019s a collaborative and participatory gathering designed for attendees \u2014 university professors, independent teachers, emerging professionals, and pianists passionate about teaching \u2014 to work together in strategic design and creative thinking activities aimed at imagining the future of piano education. The day will conclude with a piano recital featuring several performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual conference begins on July 24, 25, and 26. The only downside is that there are so many sessions happening simultaneously that it\u2019s hard to choose which ones to attend, I still haven\u2019t decided which ones I\u2019ll go to!
